DALLAS, TX, August 22, 2011 – Operation Care International (OCI) is celebrating 10 years of serving the homeless in Dallas and continues to expand as a global ministry. In order to better clarify its mission, OCI has developed a new logo, visual image and website. The new website is simple to navigate and locate information, and provides an efficient and simple volunteer registration and online giving functionality. The URL is easy to remember: www.opcare.org. The new identity and website were created completely in-house by OCI board members and volunteers.
Since 2001, OCI has provided for over 76,000 homeless and indigent persons at various community events. The hallmark event is the annual Christmas Gift for the Homeless held at the Dallas Convention Center each December. This event has been coined as “the nation’s largest Christmas party for the homeless.” Over 13,400 volunteers have participated in OCI events in Dallas. OCI is currently planning the 2011 Christmas Gift for the Homeless that will be held on December 17.
OCI is continuing its international presence with a focus on homeless and impoverished children. OCI has facilitated events in the Philippines, India, Africa, Taiwan, and China. Over 13,000 children have been served and 1,400 volunteers have assisted OCI with international events. OCI is also funding a new school building that will be used to educate up to 100 students in Ilorairokuo, Magadi, which is 50 miles south of Nairobi, Kenya.
OCI’s new mission statement:
Operation Care International exists to glorify God. In obedience to His will, we connect impoverished children and the homeless to Jesus Christ, providing for their physical needs through God’s provisions both at home and abroad.
Susie Jennings, founder of OCI said, “It is my desire and prayer that this website will reflect God’s amazing work through Operation Care International and that it will touch your heart to join where God is already working to reach out to the world. Together, we are changing lives, changing the world–not just for a moment, but for eternity!”
Operation Care International is a non-profit ministry inspired from a widow’s grief to reach the homeless in Dallas. Since November 1993, when founder Susie Jennings and a group of volunteers handed out one hundred blankets to the residents of the Canton Street Bridge near downtown Dallas, Operation Care International has been faithful to carry the message of love and hope to those in need. From 1993 to 2001, the outreach exploded, leading its board to formally file the required documentation for the ministry to become recognized as a tax-free non-profit organization. Today Operation Care reaches beyond the D/FW Metroplex and is making a world-wide impact.
